Welcome
1) Registering for the program
Registration for Fall Cross Country is in May and Registration for Spring Track and Field is in December.
2024 Track and Field Registration opens on December 3 at 12:00 pm. See our registration page for details. We invite you to follow us on Facebook so you are kept up to date on registration dates for future seasons.
There will be a separate registration for New and Returning runners. Returning Runners will have a reserved block of spots available and are considered athletes who participated in the 2023 Track & Field AND/OR 2023 Cross Country seasons. New Runners are those that have either never run with our team or runners who are returning from 2022 Cross Country or before. Our team rosters often fill up quickly, but we do our best to safely accommodate as many athletes as possible. To speed up the registration process please create an account with SportsEngine if you do not already have one by going to https://www.sportsengine.com. This is the platform that we use for registration and communication throughout the season.
2) Volunteers
We love our volunteers! If you are interested in volunteering as a coach, register here. We also have opportunities throughout the season for meet volunteers and other administrative tasks.
Who: Any adults who share an interest in kids and running--no prior experience necessary! New coaches are paired with experienced coaches and all abilities from beginner to advanced are welcome. Our Head Coaches will ensure that all volunteer coaches are trained and ready to coach our young athletes. We always need admin help and leadership. Admin roles can be filled largely remotely from home, in addition to helping out at some meets.
Why: All coaches have a guaranteed spot on the team for their children. New coaches get a 25% discount for their child’s registration and returning coaches get a 50% discount. Head coaches will receive free registration for their child’s registration.
4) Our Seasons
We run a developmental cross country season in the fall and track and field in the spring. For athletes who are more competitive and looking to train to continue to the high school and/or college level, our coaches encourage those athletes to continue with the elite regional and national competitions in the winter (cross country) and summer (track and field).
During the developmental season, all kids are welcome at three practices per week and to participate in as many of the developmental meets as we have that season. The goal of our developmental season is safety, improving, and FUN!
Practices are Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:00 and Sundays late afternoon. Meets are typically on Saturdays and will be announced at the start of each season.
Please review our website, as you will find many of your questions answered here. If you still have questions, please e-mail us.
5) Program Goals
· Provide a safe environment where athletes can develop and grow
· Improve the physical and mental capacities of our athletes
· Build lifelong runners
Please let us know if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Greyhound Track and Cross Country
The Walton Youth Running Club started in the mid-1990s as a track and field and cross country running club for girls and boys in elementary, middle, and high school. WE AIM TO HELP KIDS BECOME LIFELONG RUNNERS!
Our club is designed to introduce kids of all abilities to sprint and distance running and field events by providing an experience that is fun, social, educational, and competitive. We participate in Northwest Georgia Youth Track League and USATF sanctioned meets. Walton - Pope Youth Running Club athletes have competed in and won select championships at the Area, State, Region, and National levels.
Our club has two seasons: Track & Field in the spring and Cross Country in the fall. The Walton Youth Running Club is supported by the Walton High School athletic program, yet participation in the club is not just limited to future or current students in those districts. Our athletes attend many area schools, including homeschool. The success of our program is due to the dedication of our athletes, the commitment of our volunteer coaches, and the strong participation of our helpful parent volunteers.
